Tesla XTesla Motors

Since its founding 12 years ago, Tesla hasn’t been able to make its electric cars fast enough.

From its first Model S to its Model X SUV, which is finally being delivered on Tuesday after a one year delay, the company has struggled to keep up with demand.

But all of that is supposed to change once the company gets its Gigafactory up and running in 2017. The giant battery factory will help the company produce as many as 500,000 cars per year by 2020, according to Tesla’s estimates.

By the time its factory begins battery production, Tesla could have quite a bit of competition.

The demand for electric cars has spawned other car makers to invest heavily in the space. And over the next few years we may see some strong rivals enter the space.

Here’s a look at six all-electric cars being built that could give Tesla a run for its money.
