Most ridiculous car at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show? Bugatti Veyron – Chicago Tribune

The most expensive car on display at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show is also the most ridiculous, but not just because of the multimillion dollar price tag. It’s because of the power.

Few drivers would be able to handle what Bugatti is offering. It’s ridiculous. The 2008 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 on display at the Chicago Auto Show has an 8-liter, QUAD-turbocharged (who needs twins), 16-cylinder engine with four-wheel drive. It explodes 1,001 horsepower that reaches beyond 250 mph. It can go 0-62mph faster than you can read this sentence. 2.6 seconds. If that’s not ridiculous enough, the 2014 makes 1,200 horsepower and hits 62mph in 2.5 seconds. Its Formula 1-adpated safety features stop the car from 60 mph to zero in 2.3 seconds. Ridiculous.

If it were not shaped differently, the Veyron 16.4 could literally take off from the ground.

Why not display the 2014 Veyron, which costs $3 million, or the Guinness World Record-holding Veyron Super Sport, which, at $3.4 million, is the most expensive and fastest production car in the world?

A spokesperson for Perillo Auto Group, who supplies the rare Bugatti as part of the Comcast Supercar Garage display with McLaren, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini—you know, those cars—says they can’t put a new Bugatti in auto shows because they’re presold.

Volkswagen, who owns Bugatti, reports that it sold 31 Bugatti Veyron in 2012.

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 at the Chicago Auto Show is just a jaw-dropping, time-bending, bank-blowing 2008, one of 71 sold for that model year. It starts at $1.5 million when you round up a few thousand, which you can do at such amounts.
