After ‘American Sniper’ wiped out the competition at the box office in its opening weekend, there’s been a lot of criticism about the Oscar-nominated film–including their decision to use a plastic baby as one of Bradley Cooper’s kids.

Sure, it looks like something straight out of Toys “R” Us. The film about Navy Seal sniper Chris Kyle cost about $60 million to make but it seems only about $10 of the budget went toward a plastic baby that Cooper and his on-screen wife hold. Cooper can even be seen trying to make the ‘baby’ look more realistic by moving its arm. But as hard as they tried, viewers found themselves distracted.

According to Buzzfeed, screenwriter Jason Hall defended their use of the creepy baby, tweeting that the ‘real baby showed up with a fever’ and that the back-up ‘was a no-show.’

Needless to say, moviegoers had a field day on social media, expressing their thoughts about the robot baby that is most likely in a prop room somewhere.
