Area under winter weather advisory; 6 inches of snow possible – Sioux Falls Argus Leader
Winter will return to the area today as several inches of snow are expected through Sunday morning.
The Sioux Falls area, including Dell Rapids, Harrisburg, Brandon and Tea, could receive 4-6 inches of snow, the National Weather Service said. Extreme southeastern South Dakota, as well as parts of northwestern Iowa, are in the 5-8 range. Brookings and Huron could get 1-3 inches of snow.
Minnehaha County, as well as counties west to Davison, are in a winter weather advisory. The advisory also includes Turner and Lincoln counties. Union and Clay counties, which includes Vermillion, as well as parts of northwest Iowa, are in a winter storm warning for heavy snow.
The NWS said snow will begin to fall in Sioux Falls from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and end sometime Sunday morning. Wind chills will range from 0 to minus-10 by Sunday morning, and travel could become difficult because of the snow.

Tonight: Snow likely before 7pm, then snow with patchy blowing snow after 7pm. Low around 11. Blustery, with a northeast wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of around 4 inches.
Sunday: Snow, mainly before noon. Temperature falling to around 4 by 5pm. Blustery, with a north wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around -7. Wind chill values as low as -19. North wind 5 to 15 mph becoming south southwest after midnight.
Monday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 19. South wind 5 to 15 mph.
