This is the moment a BMW driver nearly causes a crash on a busy motorway.

Dashcam footage has emerged which appears to show a dark vehicle trying to undertake a coach – before running out of space and having to abort the dangerous manoeuvre.

The BMW has to slam on the brakes as it runs out of room and comes within inches of colliding with the coach, the Chronicle reports .

Once the road widens, the driver recklessly speeds around the bus before swerving back in front of it and appearing to deliberately slow down – a move branded “stupid” by road safety campaigners .

A Road Respect spokesman said: “This is a failure on so many levels. We don’t really know the circumstances that led to the coach pinching the BMW driver – did he not seem him, which still isn’t good, was it intentional, misjudged speed or distance.

“However, the BMW was just being an idiot and his actions could have led to catastrophe.

“Escalation doesn’t solve anything. It just shows that you’re not in control. People will make mistakes and bad choices on the road.

“Whether or not you’re a bad driver is determined on how your react. Intentionally causing hard braking, bad choice,” the spokesman continued. “Stupid, dangerous and unnecessary.

“Our current campaign is called There’s No Need – because bad driving like this, there really is no need”
