Cars littered Factoria Boulevard Thursday afternoon after a man rammed 7 cars and then tried to carjack at least two of them before being tackled by good samaritans.

Police believe the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The rampage took place over a half block on Factoria Boulevard SE and SE 38th Street.

Bellevue police say a driver rammed 7 cars, then went car to car, trying to carjack multiple people.

“He got out of his car and literally tried getting into people’s cars,” said Holly Waggoner, who was riding in a car behind him. “He opened people’s doors, pulled people out trying to get into their cars. He even kicked one guy’s window trying to get in.”

“He was trying to pull me out of my car,” said Mark Koss.

Koss’ shirt sleeve was ripped from the shoulder down. The driver rammed his car first then jumped in and tried to throw him out.

“He kept saying I gotta get out of here I gotta get out of here. And if you don’t get out of here, you’re coming with me,” said Koss.

When Koss threw his keys away, the man moved on to the next car. Seeing his actions, Leslie Vona pulled her 10-month-old daughter out of the car, locked the doors and ran.

“All I was thinking was her safety and getting her out of the car,” said Vona. “I was afraid he was going to come to my car window and I didn’t know how to fend him off. So I wanted to get her and myself out of the car and get away from the situation.”

Good Samaritan Dave Matyas said what he saw next convinced him somebody needed to do something.

“He grabs the handle to open it and it’s locked. So he grabs it with two hands and yanks it so hard that he snaps it and falls on the ground. Then he jumps up and starts wailing six or seven times, punching as hard as he can must have broken some bones,” said Matyas. “This guy has to be on some crazy drugs to do what he’s doing.”

The man was tackled by Matyas, his friend Brian Mills and some others and held until police arrived.

“Tidy little Thursday,” Mills joked.

BPD says the suspect is a 32-year-old man from Lynnwood who apparently got out of jail the day before. He was taken to the hospital with some injuries, then he will be booked into jail.
