A man has damaged several cars during a wild rampage in Sydney’s south on Saturday night.

The 21-year-old, from Oatley, allegedly used a metal star picket to smash seven cars on Gungah Bay Road while yelling at residents to come outside and fight him.

Police believe he wasn’t targeting anyone in particular and the random episode may have been fuelled by drugs or alcohol.

When officers arrived they found the man “laying face down in the middle of a roundabout with the star picket next to him,” a police spokesman said.

He had allegedly smashed the driver-side windows of a Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, the driver’s-side mirror of a Toyota Camry, the window and bonnet of a Mazda 3, the driver-side doors of an Audi A6 and Toyota Camry and then the rear driver-side window of a Holden Astra.

It’s estimated he caused more than $5000 damage.

He was taken to Kogarah police station and charged with custody of an offensive implement and seven charges of malicious damage to property.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on September 13.
