Detroit (WWJ) – It’s not just the cars that draw the crowds in to the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) — it’s also the people.
Charlie Langton toured NAIAS 2014 to learn more about the guests and employees of the various companies attending the massive auto event at Cobo Center. Everyone from a self-proclaimed “Lady Stingray” to a vehicle detailing staffer to a purveyor of sweets are represented in this cross-section of auto show life.
A Chevrolet Corvette product presenter Alicia Amie describing how she got one of the best gigs with the auto show circuit said, “Classic American girl, classic American car, we go together.” The job is about more than just looking good. Amie said, “It’s not only the fact that I get to stand next to the vehicle, look as good as the vehicle, but also I’m knowledgeable about the vehicle … I understand the capability of the technology and I can speak on behalf of it.”
Amie tells us that one of the cars will be making itself at home in her garage soon. “I’m getting one. That’s how much I like it. Lady Stingray needs a Stingray,” she said.
Among many of the people Langton met during his trip around the show we got to talk to one of the people who keep the cars looking their best. Fasciano works hard to keep up with all the smudge marks left by guests checking out the cars. He’s okay with you getting fudge on the cars as long as you share. Seems fair.
At the Mini stand, a man was repairing a dent in the hood of a car and Langton was intrigued by his golf bag full of what looked like strange clubs. Apparently each tool is specifically designed to reach parts of the car and push dents out.
The North American International Auto Show is open to the public until January 26th.
