The Muscle Cars of the 2017 New York Auto Show – The Drive

The 2017 New York International Auto Show was home to plenty of new cars, but one car stood head and shoulders above the rest in terms of making a splash: the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. Packing 840 horsepower when running on race fuel and capable of ripping off a 2.3-second 0-60 mile-per-hour time in the process of firing off a sub-10 second quarter mile, Fiat-Chrysler’s newest speed machine is the first stock muscle car to put up hypercar numbers—an idea that would have been laughable just five years ago.

But the stupidly-powerful Demon is hardly the only muscle car at the New York Auto Show. Chevy, Ford, and Dodge all brought the creme de la creme of their rear-wheel-drive lineups—or, in the case of Dodge, the cream, the milk, and every other dairy byproduct you can think of. And on top of Detroit’s Big Three, quite a few of the other automotive industry companies aiming to capture the public eye at the show brought their own muscle machines to add some panache to their displays.

So we at The Drive decided we would take it upon ourselves to catalog all the muscle cars we could find hanging around the 2017 New York Auto Show. Partly so that you don’t have to trek to NYC yourself and navigate the convention center to see for yourself…and partly because we just couldn’t help ourselves.

The centerpiece of the Ford display was a cherry-red GT supercar, but the Blue Oval couldn’t come to NYC without a couple of Mustangs—especially considering the car debuted here back in 1964.
