Three people were shot inside a shopping mall near Pittsburgh Saturday after a gunman opened fire on one man and struck two bystanders as well, police said.

The suspect escaped after the 7:33 p.m. shooting at Monroeville Mall, east of Pittsburgh, but Monroeville Police Chief Doug Cole said authorities have a description of the gunman.

The two men and one woman were taken to Forbes Hospital. One of the men was targeted by the gunman; he is in critical condition, police said. One of the bystanders is also in critical condition and another is in stable condition, but authorities did not specify between the two. Police were still investigating a motive Saturday.

“Certainly we have leads and we think we’re going to be able to solve this,” Cole told reporters. The hospital’s emergency room was placed on lockdown as police swept the mall to make sure there were no other suspects. The shooting took place in the lower level of a Macy’s department store, Cole said.

The mall has been the scene of trouble in the past. In December, there was a massive brawl inside the mall, NBC station WPXI reported. Weapons of any kind are prohibited at the shopping center, except those carried by law enforcement, according to the mall’s posted code of conduct.
