2014 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 vs. 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Comparison – MotorTrend Magazine
So the Hellcat runs neck and neck with the ZL1 at the drags despite its massive power to weight advantage, Motor Trend lists no times. The Hellcat is a colossal 7-tenths slower in the figure-8 and even the ride quality is worse plus that car is 5k more expensive…but Motor Trend still picks the Dodge.
The GT500 was faster than the ZL1 by a half second around Laguna Seca and was better or neck and neck with the ZL1 in every other category, yet Motor Trend chose the ZL1 due to its “unflappable” handling. By those standards the ZL1 should have won this contest as well.
So basically, Motor Trend wtf? You have no consistent criteria for what makes a winner in these head-to-head comparisons. By applying different standards in the same category you lose journalistic credibility. It makes one wonder aloud whether the influence of certain manufacturers’ advertising dollars or fear of pissing off certain CEOs weighs in on this.
One last bit: Sounds like that Hellcat didn’t run anywhere near an 11.2 if it’s having trouble keeping pace with a severely outmatched ZL1. The Hellcat is heavy, handles poorly, and does nothing better than either one of the competitors in its class. But, oh it has comfy seats. Waiting for Dodge fanboy excuses in 5…4…3…2…
