Since 2008, Marvel has been building their huge cinematic universe, introducing dozens of comic-book characters to the world — ranging from rich billionaire philanthropists to talking raccoons.

With Avengers: Infinity War, all that has come before will implode into two huge blockbusters (including the as-yet-untitled fourth Avengers).

At Disney’s fan convention over the weekend, D23, some footage from the upcoming Russo-brother directed film was shown, descriptions of which have reached the Internet (still no footage).

According to io9, Marvel started by playing a quick recap of where all the Infinity Stones have come from, featuring footage from previously released films.

After the studio logo, the Guardians of the Galaxy are seen flying around, Chris Pratt’s Star Lord telling the crew to “put on your mean faces.” Something then smashes against their ship’s window: Thor.

“Who the hell are you guys?” asks the son of Odin after being brought in and awoken by Mantis. They all then fly towards a planet which has been destroyed; they all known something has gone terribly wrong.

Back on Earth, Scarlett Witch is seen moving around cars with her powers, a female voice over saying: “Death follows him like a shadow.” Loki emerges, handing over the Tesseract to a shadowy, much taller figure.

Over in Queens, Peter Parker’s on edge. Cut to a huge ship flying towards a planet, assumed to be Earth. “We have one advantage,” Tony Stark says. “He’s coming to us.” Crashing into Earth, we then get glimpses of Stark, Mantis, Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, along with others, looking completely in shock.

“Fun really isn’t something one considers when balancing the universe,” an echoing voice says, Gamora looking terrified. “But this puts a smile on my face.”

“Oh no,” says Star Lord, as the villain Thanos emerges. A fight breaks out, Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, Spider-Man, and Vision all being seen.

A quick montage of shots blasts out, featuring Wakandan army (likely will be seen in Black Panther) with Bucky alongside, Captain America sporting a new beard, Black Widow with blonde hair, someone using the Hulkbuster armour, and Loki causing havoc.

“I’m sorry Tony,” Tom Holland’s Spider-Man says to Stark through tears. Thanos then grabs Thor’s head, squeezes, and the — using the Infinity Gauntlet — pulls down an entire moon to use as a weapon. Destruction everywhere as *cut* title card.

With Infinity War expected to be the final chapter for many characters, we could very well see Thanos become too much for certain Avenger members.

Avengers: Infinity War hits UK cinemas 27 April.
