COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – If only cars could drive themselves, Tom Boles’ son could drive the car of his dreams.

The little boy sat in the front seat of a car at the Columbus International Auto Show Friday.

“Yeah, I think he’s sold on it,” Boles said.

Boles, who lives in Grove City, works on cars for a living and said he sees a lot of new technology.

“Touch screen, heated steering wheels—it’s just different every year,” Boles said.

The show is in town this weekend at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, and there’s a lot of new technology for drivers to consider. Event organizers said there is also an increased demand for cars after the recession six years ago. For people considering buying a new vehicle, the auto show is a chance to browse different makes and models.

“We’re, as [my husband] likes to say, kicking the tires a bit,” Renne Dismore said.

Renne and Terry Dismore, of Pickerington, said they were planning to buy a new car within the next year.

“They’re going to discontinue the car that we like, so we’re thinking [we] better get one while they still make them,” Terry Dismore said.

The Dismores like the idea of new technology, but they’re cautious.

“I still want to be able to drive,” Terry Dismore said. “I don’t ever want it to be like get in, push a button and it takes me to the North Market or something.”

Renne Dismore didn’t agree.

“Oh, absolutely,” Renne Dismore said. “It can for me. I can then—put your makeup on, do your nails.”

“You mean like most people do now?” her husband joked.

For now, technology for driverless cars hasn’t hit the Columbus International Auto Show.

But with vehicles like the “Slingshot”—a three-wheeled motorcycle that looks and handles like a sports car—cars are already driving into the future.

The Columbus International Auto Show runs both days this weekend, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
