Longtime Canton dealership has been sold to Liberty Auto Group in a deal that will become official Tuesday.


CANTON  A longtime downtown car dealership has been sold.

Downtown Ford Lincoln has been sold to the Liberty Auto Group in a deal that will become official Tuesday, confirmed Brad Black, who owns and operates the dealership alongside founder Donald W. Schneider.

Black declined to discuss the sale Saturday.

Downtown Ford Lincoln was founded by Schneider in 1985. The dealership, at 1423 Tuscarawas St. W, sells new and used Ford and Lincoln model vehicles and includes a lube center, a tire center, a parts center and full-service collision center. It underwent a $3 million expansion to double in size in 1998 and another major renovation in 2013. In 2004, they opened the Used Car Factory just west of the dealership on the site of the former Canton City Schools bus garage.

The dealership also is known for its community involvement, including its annual Summer Cruise-In and Concert Series. 

Liberty Auto Group was founded in 1980 and is based in Maple Heights. It identifies itself as Ohio’s top Ford dealership, with locations in Solon, Maple Heights, Brunswick, Parma Heights and Vermilion.
