GM Trims Workforce, Production as Inventories Bulge – Wall Street Journal

General Motors Co. said on Tuesday it would reduce production and lay off 510 workers at two Michigan assembly plants to trim inventories of slower-selling vehicles even as auto sales generally remain red hot.

The biggest hit will be at the auto maker’s Lansing plant. About 350 people there will be temporarily idled and production cut to one shift from two, a GM spokeswoman said. The plant makes the Cadillac ATS and CTS luxury…
