As General Motors moves to unload its loss-making European arm, one risk it might not be bargaining for is more competition on its home turf.

Carlos Tavares, boss of potential acquirer PSA, hinted Thursday that exports formed a key plank of its turnaround plan for Opel, the Germany-based car manufacturer that GM has owned since 1929.
