Harrison Ford to Auction off Han Solo’s Coolest Accessory for a Deeply – Vanity Fair
When Han Solo and General Leia came face-to-face in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, they fell right back into their old mocking patterns. “Same jacket,” she teases him about his brown leather accessory. “No,” he says in mockingly wounded tones, “new jacket.” Well old or new, the Han Solo jacket that Harrison Ford sported aboard the Falcon, in the jungles outside Maz Kanata’s castle, and in the depths of the Starkiller Base could soon be yours. The actor is auctioning the jacket off for a very worthy cause.
Page Six reports that Ford has decided to leverage the famously-fond-of-collecting Star Wars fandom in order to raise money towards finding a cure for epilepsy. Earlier this month, Ford revealed that his 25-year-old daughter, Georgia, has suffered from the disease since childhood. Ford says his daughter had seizures for years and was misdiagnosed and prescribed migraine medicine before finally receiving a proper diagnoses in her teenage years. Once Ford connected his daughter with NYU Langone and Dr. Orrin Devinsky, Georgia stopped having seizures and hasn’t had one in eight years.
It’s NYU and Dr. Devinsky who will be the recipients of whatever income Ford can generate from auctioning the jacket. “I was wearing it throughout the film,” Ford told Page Six in order to make the auction item sound more enticing. As if he had to try. That coat is going to fetch a fortune.
But before Ford can auction it off, he’ll have to get it back from his daughter’s doctor. “Dr. Devinksy really wanted this jacket, and it fits him like a glove,” Ford said. Devinsky will have to settle for that fortune instead.
