The 2017 Mazda CX-5 teased a lot of fans, surprised them with early unveiling and turned a lot of heads at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. The CX-5 already has an amazing look and a decent powertrain. But what if it had a CX-9 or a Mazda Performance Series (MPS) engine?

2017 Mazda CX-5 Present Specs

According to a report from Auto Evolution, the 2017 Mazda CX-5 is currently powered by a 2.0 and 2.5-liter four-cylinder engines. It was mentioned in the same report that a 2.2-liter Skyactiv diesel engine capable of putting out 173 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque will also be available when it makes its way to the U.S market in 2017.

2017 Mazda CX-5 – The MPS Version

The MPS version on the other hand, would be fitted with a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine like the one that currently sits on the 2016 Mazda CX-9. This engine is capable of putting out 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque as reported by Daily Sun.

Dynamic Pressure Turbo Feature

The 2.5-liter engine comes with a Dynamic Pressure Turbo as reported. This allows two channels to feed the turbocharger with the air it needs while maximizing both fuel efficiency and power output. This works with the second channel being closed at lower rpms in order for the first to be able to build the boost in the shortest possible time.

All Things Are Possible

At this point, the 2017 Mazda CX-5 in MPS version coming into the U.S market is only something each and every fan and enthusiast can only dream about. However, given the fact that MPS versions did come in other vehicles in Mazda’s line up, the CX-5 MPS version may become a reality. All things are possible because it does appear that the 2017 Mazda CX-5 will do better in an MPS version.
