The immensely controversial politician, who has been under fire since last November when a video surfaced of him smoking crack, tweeted a picture of himself at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport Saturday afternoon. He tweeted at 7:37 p.m. that he arrived in Los Angeles “safe and sound.”

The mayor also told the newspaper he plans to appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Monday night.

The talk show host actually picked up Ford at the airport donning a chauffeur’s cap. Ford tweeted Sunday morning Kimmel gave him a “warm reception” and drove him from the airport.

The mayor also said he had a morning workout before heading out to Hollywood Boulevard.

The plus-sized politician does have free time on his hands as the city council stripped the mayor of most of his powers after the scandal broke, but was unable to remove him from office because he was not convicted of a crime.

He pledged to clean up his ways and get in better shape as he seeks re-election in October.

He acknowledged he had a “minor setback” when a video surfaced of him last month inebriated and swearing. The video showed the mayor trying to imitate a Jamaican accent during a rant against the Toronto’s police chief.

He also told the Sun people in the U.S. had been “very friendly” so far on his trip.
